He has dementia and is supported by his daughter who lives several miles away and works full time.
James’ daughter wants her father to be able to continue living as independently as possible in his own home but due to work can usually only see him at weekends.
Unfortunately James was starting to either forget to eat, or was eating uncooked and out of date food.
Tameside Home Services visited James after a call from his daughter. It was agreed that Support Worker Emma would visit three times a week to prepare a hot meal and to freeze meals for the other days. Emma also helped with housework leaving his daughter free to spend some quality time with him at weekends.
Unfortunately James began to deteriorate after several months and was no longer able to heat meals for himself. We agreed with his daughter to increase the visits and we now go every weekday to prepare a fresh meal, with his daughter taking care of the weekends.
We were careful to ensure that we kept to a routine with James as he was becoming very forgetful. We make sure he is always visited by either Emma or Gary when Emma is off so that he recognises the faces.
Tameside Home Services have now been supporting James and his family for over five years and keep James living well in his own home, despite his condition and general frailty.
