Emma

Emma had to live at her daughter’s and sleep on the sofa after leaving a private rented property that she could no longer afford.

Her Employment Support Allowance had been sanctioned and she was finding it difficult to buy food and pay her bills.  Physical and mental health issues were adding to the stress of the situation.

Emma went to the Chadderton Hub housing drop-in where Support Assistant Jackie ran through her options.  Emma decided she would like to be referred to the Oldham Floating Support Partnership for short-term support, so Jackie completed the referral, finding her eligible for the one-to-one service.

During their time working together, Jackie supported Emma in finding her own tenancy, to successfully apply for an emergency Local Welfare Provision payment and receive a Tenancy Starter Pack, so Emma could set up her new home.

Jackie also provided emotional support, assisting SB in making appointments with her GP.  She started receiving the medical treatment she needed, whilst her GP provided supporting information to appeal the ESA sanction and get her benefits reinstated.

Now in a stable position, Emma now feels positive about her future and would like to pursue a career as a nursery or classroom assistant.  She said: "my life has been transformed.  Now I am now looking forward to a bright future, thanks to Jackie and all the OFSP team.”
