Jane was homeless when she was referred to Great Moves Women Now she lives in a New Charter home.

"I was referred to Vernon House after I went to the Housing Options centre and explained my situation.  I had never lived away from home before and was feeling nervous but the staff at Vernon House helped make the transition as smooth as possible.

They advised me how to fill in and apply for housing benefit, and we began to fill out application for housing association homes right away.

I was registered with Tameside Housing Register, who help people in supported housing move on.

I soon got into the habit of bidding every week and felt in control of how quickly I moved on.

The staff helped me to think about having my own property and what that would mean for me assisting me in filling in an application for a grant to help me buy basic furniture. I know I would have been lost without this support as I struggle with forms.

I was offered a property with New Charter who also helped me furnish my home and get hold of kitchen equipment to cook meals.  I have never had a home of my own but with the support from Vernon staff and knowing Tameside Floating Support is there as well, I am sure I will be ok.  Thanks to the support from a great team."
